KINGS CANYON

From all the places around my house I always neglected to visit Kings Canyon National Park...so this weekend I decided to get rid of this guilt feeling..
I have ben here before many times ...while we where living in Fresno I use to come here to hike, sky or just for sunday afternoon drive...but in the automobile...an that's my friends is quite a different drive than on the motorcycle..
If you ever in the park stop by this lodge...it's very nice inside...and you can get some snacks, drinks...good company ...a lot of good stuff to look at..
...and if you really willing to pay you could get some gas here. It's old school and minimum 5 gal. but it is gas...
This was Memorial Day weekend so I had to wait for that perfect moment to take a picture without cars, trucks, trailers and bikes..
According to the Guinness book of world records, Kings Canyon is the deepest canyon in the United States with a maximum depth of 8,200 feet (2,500 m). The canyon was carved by glaciers out of granite
And it sure prety...even in this dry and hot summer..
I could not resist to snap a picture of this ghost tree...
Roads Ends is the farthest point you can drive ...after this you have to turn around and go where you came from ...I think that's why not a lot of people visiting this place..
Kings River starts here in Kings Canyon and flows about 125 miles to the Tulare Lake
Ok, so after a day ride in the park and dealing with a traffic I was glad to leave the paved road, cars and civilization behind me..
Miles and miles of wild country...somwhere in the distance, behind the mountains is the Kings River...and that's where I'll spend tonight..
The road 12S01 was very nice in the beginning but later got narrow and rocky...huge washouts was pretty much behind every turn..
Some parts were nice and shady...if I'm not mistaken this is a crab tree...
This one was pleasant surprise to me ...abandoned mine was not marked in my map..
I left my bike on the road and crossed little bridge over to the abandoned mine..
It's like deliverance country up here ...spooky...
I wonder what stories this bed could tel us ...?
Or this automobile..
I am attracted to the junk yards and old crap like this...to me it's like art...My dream is to own some property and have a huge junk yard on it..
Ok ...let's go back to the ride report..
So like I sed before the road was perfect...It was around 6:30pm and I was like 20 miles North of Hwy 180 and no Kings Rivers in site..
All the way to this moment i was thinking to sleep just in my sleeping bag under the stars...but this changed my mind ...I hate spiders...In this case the spider was the prey..
Finally I reached Kings River...this little sandy beach was perfect for night camp...so I collected some rocks for a fire pit gathered wood and started my dinner..
And while dinner is cooking I set up a camp ...later that night I was amazed by the amount of stars in the sky...what a great day..
Next morning I was up around 7:30am...late start...but I slept so good...so who cares ...right...?
I followed road 11S12 along North Fork Kings River. The road had a black top here not the best condition but still it's a black top...
I was not following river anymore but instead crawling up the hillsides and steadily gaining the elevation..
The views are astonishing here but I better keep my eyes on the road... those cliffs on the right are pretty steep...and there is nobody here but me..
When you get in the pine trees and air starts smell like sweet pine needles you know you are above 5000 ft elevation..
The first place I encountered humans were at Black Rock reservoir ...couple of campers..
Pretty cool sight of dam...but that's pretty much all...so I continued my ride..
Last mile of pawed road...from here it will be gravel and dust ....still going up..
There is a Wishon Reservoir hidden behind those granite mountains in the distance..
Looking back the gravel road that I came...very well maintained...
Some natures sculptures..
From this point is all down hill...
And several miles later I was back on the paved road..
One more lake visited...one more trip report...one more adventure...
Glacier carved granite canyon...
And the next thing I know...my bike turned 15k....I better get those valves checked...
But first there is another lake to visit..
High country...and a lot of granite...
Got some late coffle to keep me going and couple gifts for my wife...
On the way home I stopped to visit McKinley Grove ...giant redwood trees..
And one more stop to adjust the chain...it was really lose...end that is the end my firends...see you next time..!!!
