SWEET WATER MINE

I woke up in the morning without any plan for the weekend, got my coffee, pet the dog. Stacie (my wife) had a load of homework assignments so I packed some extra food, water, and clothes and hit a road.
From Merced I took Highway 59 to town called Snelling, then Road J16 to little town called Hornitos. The road splits in the town, I took the Bear Valley Rd. to Highway 49.
I like this picture...of my bike and the road in the background...

Perfect day to ride
Did I put this picture second time...?! Need more coffe I guess...
It is really hard to be concentrated on the road because after every curve there is astonishing landscaping opening in the front of your ayes offering different picture each time
Everyone who rides around knows Highway 49 it' s like the candy lane with all the sweet hook ups. It has twists and turns and going up and down
Looks like garden snake to me...
On the mountain in the horizon there is nice dirt road that will take you all the way to the Lake McLure...One way In -One way Out. If you like more extreame there are some trails that going down to some canions. I tryed one but it was early in the spring and water was runing down the trail like a creek so I did not pushed my luck too much

In Mariposa I jumped on Highway140 and headed towards Yosemite National Park. Coming in to the Midpines I spotted an old style convenient store on my right so I pulled over to stretch my legs and look over the map as at this point I still did not knew where I' m going. I spotted some kind of road going from the dirt lot by the store it did not had any signs or address number as private dry ways usually do, it did not show on my map so I decided to go down there and check it out. The gravel road was going up the mountain and it was in pretty good shape, after several miles I knew that it was not a private road but I have no idea where it' s going nether. I decided to drive 20 mi. and if there is nothing fun and interesting turn around and go back. After 10 miles I got to some higher elevations with big pine trees and nice forest roads so I just rode. The weather was greate!
There is not many road signs here and the ones are still standing taking punishment from drunk hunters or shooters, so do not expect navigate thru the twisty mountain roads very easy

It just happened to me that I stumble on the old Sweetwater Mine, I did not had a clue that it is there and got pleasantly surprised

I spend good hour walking around, it was really interesting to see all the gadgets the miners created to get gold to the surface

It is actual grave...rest in piece...

Another thing I noticed that nature is a live there and is claiming back the land that people took many years ago. There is many monuments of human civilization and samples of technological achievements are scattered around. The young trees and grasses are growing around and slowly but surely seems to be crushing the structures, machinery and other things left there. It is seems like all those indestructible metal things just melting like snow in the spring. And one day it all will be gone so and we, but the forest still be there for many thousands of years to come

I checked creek bed for some gold nuggets, but did not found any bigger than my fist so did not bother picking the little ones. After snapping several pictures I departed from old gold mine not richer than I came. O well, at least I tried.
On the way home I met couple local guys riding dirt bikes and they told me that I could get to the Highway 140 by taking Feliciana Mountain Rd. that way I do not need go back the same road I came

An Hour later I was back on the highway rolling home.
What a grate day! Good trails and the weather.
